Members of the American Singer Club, I am writing to provide an update regarding recent events affecting our club; and to provide some information regarding the upcoming show season. I have had the delightful opportunity of meeting many of you in person, but for those I do not know, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kristine Stewart, and I have been a member of ASC, and Chapter 22, DRAGON, since 2011. In the last two years, I have been the show secretary for the DRAGON song trials, and also for the ASC section at the Society of Canary and Finch Breeders of Michigan show. I am a 2019 - 2020 Nominator for ASC; and, last year, I had the honor of becoming an ASC judge. I am a pharmacist in a hospital in Michigan; and I am passionate about my hobbies, and animals, including my American Singer canaries!
Now, that I have introduced myself, I would like to share some important information with my fellow ASC members. First, as many of you are aware, after discussion with our ASC President, Joaquin Torres, and I have agreed to perform ASC duties as the acting Secretary / Treasurer until Ed Medrano is ready to resume his offices. The first matter to be addressed is the 2020 ASC show season. The decision to host a 2020 show will be left to each local chapter. Only local club officers and members will be able to assess the risks, COVID19 safeguards, and restrictions in their area. If a local chapter decides to hold a show in 2020, the chapter members will be responsible for ordering their own ASC rosettes and medallions this year. The chapters will have to cover the expense of the awards up front, and when able, ASC will reimburse the chapters. I currently do not have access to the ASC account, and therefore, cannot tell you when the reimbursement will occur. To order the ASC awards contact: R B Powers Co in Ohio (740) 747-2121. When ordering the awards, please review how many rosettes and medallions are awarded based on the number of singers being shown. These specifications can be found under the "Show Information" section on the ASC website (americansingercanary.org).
If your chapter is planning to have a show in 2020, please send your show announcement information to ASC Webmaster, Ginger Wolnik. Ginger will post your show information and make it available to our members.
In addition, I will also be responsible for collecting 2021 ACS membership renewals and band orders. The goal will be, as previous, to mail preordered bands out the first week in December. I have prepared a 2021 membership application and 2021 band order form to be available on the A.S.C website. Please let me know how many bands you plan on ordering for 2021 ASAP, so that I can determine if my current band order is sufficient.
I love the American Singer Canary. I love raising and showing them. And, I really enjoy the people I have met through these wonderful little birds. This breed, the shows, and the ASC has been around for people to enjoy since 1934. This has been due to the hard work of many breeders, club members, exhibitors, and, especially, due to club officers. I want to do what I can to help us get through the adversity of this pandemic. I want to give back to the hobby, and help it be there for many more people to enjoy. Thanks, and let me know what I can do to assist you in ASC. If I cannot help, I will try to find another member, or officer who can. Please, everyone, stay safe and healthy; and enjoy your Singers!
